ATI has made substantial impact on Alabama and its transportation systems. While UA’s historical transportation research portfolio exceeds $200M, the funding history since ATI’s founding in 2017 is itself substantial, with a total of approximately $55M to UA and nearly $100M in total dollars brought to the state.
This represents an ROI from 2017-2021 of about $5 for every $1 of state funds expended, a substantial return on the investment by the State of Alabama.
The direct funding to The University of Alabama over this period resulted in the following direct support:
- 140 faculty projects
- 26 annual post-doctoral researcher appointments
- 89 other annual research staff appointments
- 140 annual student appointments
